Israeli news sources report that Max Bögl and Signon Schweiz won a tender for the construction and maintenance of the track and electronic systems of the A1 rail – a new high-speed train built on Palestinian land.
On 5 February 2015, Israel media reported that the Electra Bögl Group won an Israeli Railways’ EUR 160 million tender, as part of the high-speed route from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem. This new train route crosses the green line into the occupied West Bank in two areas, using occupied Palestinian land, some of it privately owned, for an Israeli transportation project aimed exclusively for Israelis. According to the Israeli financial Newspaper – Globes, the railway track tender “deals with the planning, construction, and maintenance of the track and systems for the route […] Construction will include laying 46 kilometers of track; setting up electromechanical systems that support railway operation, management, coordination, and supervision; and integration of all the installed systems“.
The reports describe the Electra Bögl group as an international consortium composed of the Israeli Electra Ltd and Electra Infrastructures Hofrey Hasharon, German company Max Bögl Stiftung & Co. (Formerly: Max Bögl Bauunternehmung GmbH & Co.) and Swiss company Signon Schweiz.
Apparently, this is the second time Max Bögl has won a tender under the framework of the A1 project. In 2009, Israeli media reported that together with Hofrey Hasharon, the company won the tender for the construction of section D of the rail – the last segment between the Cedars Valley in the OPT and the Binyanei HaUma station in Jerusalem. Back then, it reportedly provided Hofrey Hasharon with engineering consultancy.
Max Bögl is the largest German private company in the fields of civil engineering, construction, infrastructure and tunneling. Signon Schweiz is an engineering consultancy firm located within the rail business area of the German TÜV SÜD AG.
