Dell Technologies Inc. is an American multinational technology company. Dell's products include personal computers, servers, smartphones, televisions, computer software, computer security and network security, as well as information security services.
Dell Technologies is the main provider of servers, storage systems and related services to the Israeli Ministry of Defense and the Israeli military.
Services to the Israeli Military
In January 2023, Dell Technologies won the server tender of the Israeli Ministry of Defense for the supply of servers, maintenance services and related equipment to the Israeli army, the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD) and other security bodies for two years. The scope of the tender was over USD 150 million and was funded by US foreign aid, provided by the United States to Israel.
In July 2024, Dell Technologies sponsored and participated in the “IT For IDF” conference. The conference was on the topic of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in the field of operational systems and combat support systems to improve the effectiveness of the Israeli military, in the context of the deadly Israeli military offensive on Gaza.
In 2019, the IMOD published a tender for the purchase of Dell laptop computers.
EMC Israel Advanced Information Technologies
Dell Technologies’, fully owned Israeli subsidiary, EMC Israel Advanced Information Technologies, is the main provider of data storage systems to the Israeli military.
In 2010, EMC Israel Advanced Information Technologies, won the Israeli military storage tender worth USD 300 million funded by US aid funds. The tender included the supply of storage systems, backup systems and anti-duplication systems, hardware components, and software for storage management for the army and other security agencies.
Following the tender, EMC systems served as the main platform for the military relocation to the Naqab project, where new military data centers, based on EMC systems, were established.
National Cyber Park in the Naqab
EMC is also part of the National Cyber Park in the Naqab. The park is adjacent to the Israeli military’s technological campus of the ICT Division, which was established as part of the national project to relocate military bases to the Naqab. Dell was one of several companies chosen to take part in the IMOD project for the establishment of a military technology security facility in the Naqab as part of the military’s relocation to the south project.
The project is part of a greater attempt to strengthen Jewish settlement and development in the Naqab while Palestinian Bedouin communities in the region face forced displacement and de-development by Israeli authorities. For more on Development & Military Projects in the Naqab see Who Profits’ interactive map: Tools of Dispossession in the Naqab.
Between 2019 and 2024, EMC received NIS 22,563,308 from the Prime Minister’s Office under the budget for benefits for employers in the National Cyber Park, as part of a program to provide financial incentives to companies that establish Research and Development (R&D) activities in the park.
In August 2018, Dell personnel accompanied and mentored a military Hackathon for officers of the Computer and IT Directorate and cyber defense units in the Naqab.
VMware
Between 2016 and 2021, Dell owned the majority stake in former subsidiary VMware. In 2016, VMware signed an agreement with the IMOD for the implementation of VMware systems for the military and other security bodies for NIS 100 million, in the years 2016-2019. The agreement allowed the military to use the company's systems and products for all its new and future technological projects almost without limitation. In addition, the agreement includes licensing packages for new products, maintenance service, assimilation and training for several years. About half of the amount is designated for ongoing maintenance of virtual systems that were previously implemented in the military and other security bodies, and half is for the benefit of implementing systems in the new projects.
