Sociedad Espanola de Montajes Industrial S.A., also known as SEMI, is a Spanish company engaged in electricity systems and industrial construction. SEMI is owned by the French concessions and construction company Vinci Group.
Tel Aviv–Jerusalem Fast Train (A1)
The company carried out the electrification of the Tel-Aviv Jerusalem Fast Train (A1) and provides it with maintenance services.
On December 28, 2015, SEMI won a tender from the Israeli state-owned railway company, Israel Railways, to carry out a project to electrify the railway network infrastructure worth approximately NIS 2 billion. The agreement includes the electrification of 420 km of existing and planned rail lines, including the Tel-Aviv Jerusalem Fast Train (A1) railway, the construction of control stations, and control and monitoring systems associated with the electrification of the rail. The agreement is valid until December 27, 2032, and includes a maintenance period of ten years for the A1 railway, with an option for another 15 years of maintenance.
The Tel Aviv–Jerusalem Fast Train route, also known as A1 railway, crosses the Green Line into the occupied West Bank in two areas, using confiscated occupied Palestinian land, some of it privately owned, for an Israeli transportation project aimed exclusively for Israelis. For more information on the A1 project, see Who Profits’ report: Crossing the Line: The Tel Aviv Jerusalem Fast Train (A1).
In November 2016, the company initiated digging and fencing works in Section A of the project in the no-man's land area near Latrun Enclave across the Green Line. In April 2017, the company carried out electrification works in tunnel No.1 of the A1 train route.
In 2020, SEMI completed the electrification of the Tel-Aviv Jerusalem A1 train.
In 2025, the company was contracted by Israel Railways for NIS 340 million to carry out an additional electrification project, including the 431 Railway, which will connect to the A1 railway.
