Services to the Israeli Military
Eitan Armored Personnel Carrier
In April 2025, Rolls-Royce's U.S.-based fully owned subsidiary, Rolls-Royce Solutions America, was contracted as the principal contractor to supply engines for the Eitan APC in a USD 180 million Foreign Military Sale to Israel.
This agreement builds on a previous USD 85.5 million contract aimed at enhancing the Israeli military mobility, survivability, and response capability in combat. The agreement includes the delivery of 8V199TE21-D diesel engines and related equipment. The 8V199TE21-D engine produces around 750 horsepower and the powerpack is designed for efficiency and endurance in extreme conditions.
The Eitan APC is an eight-wheeled armored fighting vehicle developed by the Israeli Ministry of Defense. The Eitan entered active service in recent years and was widely used by the Israeli military in Gaza during the Genocide.
The Eitan can carry 12 troops and is equipped with an unmanned upper turret, which includes a 30 mm automatic cannon, 40 mm grenade launchers and an anti-aircraft machine gun.
The Eitan APC first entered service in October 2023 in Gaza and has since been widely used by the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip.
In March 2024, Eitan vehicles were used by Nahal Brigade infantry fighters to sneak soldiers from the "Shayetet 13" commando unit into the al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, during which Israeli military forces raided the hospital while medical staff and patients were present, using tanks and heavy gunfire, resulting in deaths and injuries.
In February 2025, the Israeli military began using the Eitan APC in the occupied West Bank for the first time. In February 2025, Eitan APCs raided the Palestinian village of Tamun in the occupied West Bank as part of Israeli military raids on the cities of Jenin and Tulkarm, and several villages in the Jordan Valley, mainly Tubas and Tamun. This was the first time in years in which heavy armored vehicles were used inside Palestinian villages in the occupied West Bank.
The Eitan was also used by the Israeli military in training in the occupied Syrian Golan.
Namer Armored Personnel Carrier
In September 2021, Rolls-Royce Solutions America was awarded a USD 193.9 million contract for the supply of Power Packs Less Transmissions (NPPLT) engine systems for the Namer APC, financed by Foreign Military Sales funds to Israel.
In February 2019, the State Department approved a Foreign Military Sale to Israel of 270 power pack engine systems and related equipment for the Namer APC by Rolls-Royce Power Systems at an estimated cost of USD 238 million. The sale also included integrated logistics support, including special tools for maintenance, preservation and packaging, containers, configuration management, technical manuals, spare parts catalogs, and more.
In November 2023, the Israeli military deployed the Namer APC in its first combat use in the military invasion in northern Gaza. In September 2023, Namer APC participated in the military invasion of the city of Jenin in the occupied West Bank.
Merkava Battle Tank
Rolls-Royce developed the MT-883 engine for the Merkava Mark 4 battle tank. The Merkava Mark 4 battle tank was used extensively in the recent Israeli invasion of Gaza.
The Merkava Mark 4 tank is powered by a GD 883 V-12 diesel engine, also known as MTU MT-883, manufactured by MTU under license by General Dynamics Land Systems in the USA. The MT-883 engine is manufactured through a cooperation agreement between Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG, formerly MTU Friedrichshafen, and General Dynamics, to facilitate its production in the United States.
Services to the Israeli Navy
In 2015, the company's German subsidiary MTU was the largest engine supplier to the Israeli Navy, with approximately 80% of the Navy's vessels using MTU engines. The company assisted in establishing the Israeli Navy's running-in installation and engine workshop for maintaining the propulsion systems of all Israeli Navy vessels.
In 2018, MTU America Inc. was awarded a USD 7.946 million contract to supply engines and engine components to the Government of Israel in support of Israeli vessels as part of Foreign Military Sales to Israel. The engines and engine components included MTU engine series M90, M94, TB54, TB82, TB93, TB94, TE83, TE94, and SE84.
Sa’ar Corvettes
MTU engines power the Israeli Navy's Sa'ar warships.
The Israeli Navy's Sa'ar 6 class missile corvettes, the INS Oz and the INS Magen, are powered by a combined diesel and diesel (CODAD) propulsion system that integrates two MTU diesel engines paired with two controllable pitch propellers (CPPs). The Sa'ar 6 ships have been used for military assaults and enforcing the illegal naval blockade of Gaza.
The Israeli Navy Sa’ar 2 class Missile Boat is powered by four MTU 16V 538 diesel engines with 3200 horsepower each.
The Israeli Navy Sa'ar S-72 class corvette is powered by a hybrid propulsion system based on two MTU 16V 1163 M94 diesel engines.
Patrol Vessels
MTU has supplied the MTU IDDC 12V-4000 M90 Marine main propulsion engines for the Israeli Navy's Super Dvora Mk III class patrol vessel.
In 2015, MTU America was awarded a USD 6.8 million contract to supply propulsion system equipment to support the Israeli Navy’s ongoing fleet maintenance. The contract was funded through Foreign Military Sales to Israel to supply the Israeli Navy with three sets of propulsion system hardware and two spare marine gears for the Israeli Navy’s Super Dvora fast patrol vessels by March 2017.
The Israeli Navy's Shaldag class patrol boat is powered by two independently operated MTU diesel engines of 16V2000 or 12V4000 type.
