Roboteam Defense is a private Israeli company, developer and manufacturer of combat tactical ground robotic systems. The company is a subsidiary of Elbit Systems.
Robo-team Defense, founded by two veterans of the Israeli military Special Forces Units, supplies robots to the Israeli military and the Israel Police.
The company’s robots are developed in close coordination with the Israeli military and designed for its needs with the investment of the Israeli Ministry of Defense's Directorate of Defense Research & Development.
Roboteam provided dozens of robots to the Israeli military Infantry Corps and the Israeli military's “counter-terror school” for training purposes. Some of the company's sales were acquired with US aid funds.
The company has robots of various weights (from 1.5 kg to 1.2 tons) used for intelligence gathering, navigation, and remote munitions launching.
Gaza 2023-2025
The company markets its MGTM robots as battle-tested by the Israeli military in Gaza.
Roboteam's “Roni” and MTGR (Micro Tactical Ground Robot) robots are used by Israeli military combat soldiers in Gaza.
The “Roni” (Hebrew acronym for “dedicated portable robot”) was the Israeli military’s first battlefield robot, developed by the company in collaboration with the Israeli military’s Land Technology Division. In December 2017, the Roni went under its first operational tests by the Israeli military in the occupied West Bank and on the besieged Gaza border.
The MTGR is a lightweight, portable tactical robot that can move in a complex urban environment, inside buildings and underground, and can carry intelligence and other means. The robot is equipped with advanced cameras and transmits 360-degree video to various command and control systems. It is characterized by high mobility in difficult terrain conditions such as climbing stairs and obstacles. The system is used for engineering and bomb disposal missions, intelligence gathering and special operations, and allows combat soldiers to send it forward to scan areas.
In 2014, Roboteam robots were used by the Israeli military during its 50-day attack on Gaza, which left over 2,200 people dead.
The Roni MTGR robot weighs 15 Kg and takes two infantrymen to control and carry. The robot has a set of advanced thermal and night vision cameras that can record in 360 degrees using infrared lights and sensors that can transmit an image to a distance up to dozens of meters, even when the robot is underground. The Roni is in use by the special forces combat engineering unit, the Commando infantry brigade, and the elite reconnaissance units of the infantry brigades.
Roboteam also provides the Israeli military with the armed “Probot V2” UGV (unmanned ground vehicle), used by Israeli Engineering Paratroopers.
Roboteam and its parent company Elbit Systems jointly developed the "Rook" UVG, a robotic unmanned ground vehicle, which can operate autonomously or as part of a coordinated swarm of multiple unmanned vehicles. The Rook is fully autonomous and designed to operate alongside a force on the field. It can carry payloads of up to 1,200 kg, navigate rough terrain day and night to deliver supplies, evacuate casualties, perform surveillance and intelligence-gathering missions, and operate as a remote weapon system and loitering munitions.
Robotim has also developed an autonomous combat robot equipped with a firing position with an artificial intelligence-based sight in collaboration with Smart Shooter company.
Services to the Israel Police
In September 2024, Roboteam Defense was contracted by the Israel Police with an exemption from tender to provide the purchase and maintenance of a robotic platform for NIS 1,500,000 until the end of 2027. The remotely driven robots can transport objects and operate dedicated means and feature a front driving camera, integrated wheel and caterpillar platform, a load capacity of up to 20 kg, and prolonged working capacity up to 8 hours using batteries in military standard.
Global Activity
Roboteam sells its products to governments and militaries in about 30 countries worldwide, including the United States, United Kingdom, Singapore, Switzerland, Canada, Thailand, Italy, Morocco, Colombia and the UAE armies.
The company has a production facility in the USA.
