Smart Shooter is a private Israeli company that produces electro-optical fire control systems for small arms based on Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision and Machine Learning technologies.
Smart Shooter’s Remote Controlled Weapon System 'SMASH' was developed under the direction and funding of the Israeli Ministry of Defense. The firing system can follow and lock in on targets using image processing based on artificial intelligence and can be controlled remotely. The system is used by the Israeli military Infantry units in Gaza and used as a crowd control weapon in the occupied West Bank.
The SMASH Fire Control System, also known as 'Dagger', is an electro-optic rifle sight that has a fire control system and a firing computer. The sight can be fitted on the barrel of any rifle and is installed on the soldier’s personal weapon and enables the system to lock on and track targets through image processing based on Artificial Intelligence. An algorithm-based processor selects the moment to fire and ensures a hit regardless of the user's abilities or the need for his experience.
In 2018, following a pilot period, the Israeli military began to put the Dagger sights into use in the various infantry brigades. The sights came into use by the Israeli military during the Great March of Return demonstrations near the barrier surrounding Gaza. The Israeli military has since been gradually expanding its use. As of today, every infantry division has a 'Daggerist', a designated fighter who is responsible for activating the Smart Shooter sight.
The company's 'SMASH Hopper System' was integrated unto the Israeli military’s 'David' Light Armored Vehicles. The system is a light-weight Remote Controlled Weapon Station (RCWS) that provides the remote capability to engage ground targets and small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).
Gaza 2023-2024
Smart Shooter's Dagger fire control system entered the battlefield in its new configuration during the 2023 attack on Gaza and has been widely and extensively used by the Israeli military infantry units in Gaza.
Infantry Forces operating in Gaza have been equipped with the Smash sights, and in November 2023, the third generation of the Dagger sight was entered into use among reservist soldiers in the Israeli military.
Between November 2023 and February 2024, the sights were used by the Israeli Ground Forces and Infantry Units in Gaza, and by the commando brigade during military raids in northern Gaza. Among the units identified as using the sight are the "Maglan" special unit and the 51st battalion of the "Golani" infantry brigade.
In December 2023, the Israeli military 212 Maglan Unit was documented using the Smart Shooter 3000 in the Al-Shati neighborhood of Northern Gaza.
On November 22, 2023, Smart-Shooter posted a photo on Facebook, showing three Israeli soldiers with their faces blurred, aiming assault rifles at a building in Gaza, with the description: “The SMASH 3000 is now in action with the Israeli military Special Forces, transforming Close Quarter Combat scenarios.”
West Bank
Smart Shooter’s Remote Controlled Crowd Dispersal System is installed over Israeli military checkpoints and in heavily populated areas in the occupied West Bank. The system is based on AI technology and can fire stun grenades, tear gas and sponge-tipped bullets.
The AI-controlled machine guns were installed on a military watchtower overlooking Aida Refugee Camp, Bethlehem, and in Al-Aroub Refugee Camp, Hebron, and in Hebron city.
Two Remote-controlled guns were installed atop a watchtower with surveillance cameras overlooking the al-Arub refugee camp. According to the residents of al-Arub, the turrets repeatedly fired tear gas at the hillside of the camp.
In September 2022, the company’s Remote-controlled Crowd Dispersal System was installed over the Israeli military Bab Al-Zawiya checkpoint (checkpoint 56) in Shuhada Street in Hebron, in the center of a heavily populated area.
In 2018, the company was contracted by the Israeli Ministry of Defense to provide 2,250 Dagger smart sights to be supplied to the Israeli Ground Forces by 2020 in several batches. The sights were designated for the infantry brigades and elite units and mounted on the M4A1 and Tavor X-95 service rifles.
