Carrefour Israel, also known as Global Retail C.I. (formerly Yenot Bitan), is a private Israeli company engaged in the food retail sector and operates a chain of supermarkets for the retail sale of food and other consumer products. The company operates stores under the Carrefour brand names (Carrefour City, Carrefour Market, Carrefour Hyper, and La Mercè), and online sales sites under the brand names Carrefour Online, Bitan Online, and Quik.
Carrefour Franchise
In April 2022, the company entered into an exclusive franchise agreement with the French Carrefour Group to operate the Group's supermarkets under the Carrefour brand and for the exclusive use of the brand name and Carrefour's private label in Israel.
The franchise agreement was signed for a period of 20 years with automatic renewal for an additional 20 years and extension options for additional 20-year periods. In February 2024, the first franchise period was extended to an additional 7 years for a total of 27 years with an option for an additional 20 years.
Services to Settlements
The company operates a Carrefour store in a shopping center located outside the Green Line in a “demilitarized zone” in the occupied West Bank in the city of Maccabim (Modi'in-Maccabim-Re'ut).
The company also operates Bitan Market stores in the settlements of Alfei Menashe and Ma’ale Adumim in the occupied West Bank.
The Carrefour and Bitan online stores provide delivery services to the settlements of Oranit, Sha’arei Tikva, Elkana and Etz Efraim in the occupied West Bank, and to the settlement neighborhoods of Gilo and Har Homa in occupied East Jerusalem.
Gaza Captive Food Market
In December 2025, Carrefour Israel was one of 11 companies that reportedly won a tender from the Israeli Customs Directorate to privatize humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The tender allows the winning Israeli food chains, importers, and suppliers to sell food to Gaza with a revenue potential of approximately NIS 800 million per year.
Since the beginning of the genocide, Israel has severely restricted the entry of food and prevented international aid organizations from entering the Gaza Strip, creating a captive market for food companies authorized by Israel. The Israeli suppliers charge brokerage fees, and traders in Gaza are also required to pay VAT to the State of Israel, increasing the costs for Palestinians in Gaza amid an ongoing blockade and humanitarian crisis.
Services to Israeli Military
The company provided food and beverages for the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), the Israeli military coordination unit in the occupied West Bank and Gaza. In 2024, the company provided food and beverages for COGAT for events in the total amount of NIS 9,610. In 2023, the company provided food and beverages for COGAT for a total of NIS 33,705.
Ministry of Economy
In April 2026, the Ministry of Economy and Industry launched a project in which Carrefour Israel was selected to market 100 products at a set price for at least six months, in exchange for a NIS 50 million publicity campaign funded by the ministry.
