Removing Beigel and Beigel and Unilever from Who Profits’ Database

Beigel and Beigel relocated its factory from the Barkan settlement to the Israeli city of Safed. Who Profits research team has visited the deserted factory and confirmed the withdrawal.

In the beginning of February 2013, multinational giant Unilever has informed Dutch NGO United Civilians for Peace (UCP) that the company no longer operates the factory of its subsidiary Beigel and Beigel. Beigel and Beigel is a baked goods' company, established in the Barkan Industrial Zone, near the Israeli settlement Ariel in the occupied West Bank. The company claimed that the production lines have been transferred to Unilever's plant in Safed, behind the Green Line in Israel proper.

Following contradicting reports on the completion of Unilever's withdrawal, Who Profits research team has visited the Barkan factory this morning (February 11th). Our researchers confirmed that the factory is closed. The Beigel and Beigel logo was removed from the entrance gate and from the production buildings and there was no sign of goods, trucks or company's personnel in the factory's premises.
